About the Position:
Located in the culturally rich and historic North Shore area of the state, the Town of Ipswich is a community of approximately 13,200 residents. It is accessed via Routes 95, 93 and 1 and is located on the beautifully picturesque Massachusetts coastline and within short driving distances of both New Hampshire and Maine. The city of Boston, the economic, educational and cultural hub of New England, is about one hour south. There are four schools in the district providing for approximately 1, 800 students: Ipswich High School, Grades 9-12; Ipswich Middle School, Grades 6-8; Paul F. Doyon Memorial School, Grades PreK-5; and Winthrop School, Grades PreK-5. The facilities are attractive and well-maintained, and provide resources to support the needs of all learners. The district is currently engaged in a project with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) to replace both elementary schools with a combined PreK-5 community school. Parents and residents are proud of the successes of the schools and consistently provide financial and resource support, which fosters the highest possible achievement for all students. The district is also the beneficiary of a unique educational trust which provides substantial annual funding for the enhancement and enrichment of its programs. This is an exciting opportunity for a school leader to build upon the successes that the school district has enjoyed. Candidates should be experienced as a classroom teacher, school administrator and/or a system-wide/central office leader. A doctoral degree is preferred but not required. State superintendent certification or certification eligibility is necessary. The successful applicant should have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders including students, parents, state and local government officials, local businesses and community organizations and citizens. Qualified candidates must have some or all of these skills: budget development and strategic planning, strong central office and/or building administrative experience, and demonstrated success in team building. Prior experience with school building projects will be helpful.  The school board offers a multi-year contract with a competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
